Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA): Lenders must comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) to the extent that they rely on consumer reports such as credit reports to make lending decisions, or perform background checks on hires. This legislation also affects them if they furnish information about their customers to the 3 main credit bureaus. (Experian, TU, and Equifax)

Federal Trade Commission FTC:   The FTC enforces laws that protect consumers from deceptive mortgage practices by certain kinds of lenders. The FTC also takes action when companies use illegal tactics directed to people facing foreclosure.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB):   The CFPB is a new federal consumer protection agency that makes and enforces rules effecting the consumer finance markets.

Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA): Employers must comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) if they perform background checks on hires or existing employees.

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC): The EEOC enforces Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. They regulate employers using background checks and credit reports in the hiring process to ensure that disparate treatment or disparate impact do not result.

Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA): The DPPA prevents the release or use by any State DMV, of personal information about an individual obtained by the department in connection with a motor vehicle record.
